Bo Horvat scored the game-winner in overtime and Ilya Sorokin made 32 saves to lift the New York Islanders to a 4-3 win over the New Jersey Devils in Newark, N.J., on Friday.
Horvat one-timed a cross-ice feed from Mathew Barzal past Jake Allen at 1:08.
With Allen pulled for the extra attacker late in the third period, Jesper Bratt forced the extra frame when he lifted a puck over Sorokin from the side of the net at 18:31.
Kyle Palmieri and Brock Nelson each had a goal and an assist for the Islanders.
Bratt had a goal and an assist, and Allen made 26 saves for New Jersey, which has lost four straight (0-2-2).
Nelson gave New York a 1-0 lead in the first period, tipping Adam Pelech's shot from the inner left circle bar down past Allen at 1:23.
The Islanders nearly doubled their lead 7 1/2 minutes in when Horvat tipped a shot off the rush that squeaked through Allen but rolled wide out of the crease.
Hischier tied it 1-1 at 11:36. Bratt retrieved a loose puck and sent a short feed over to Hischier alone in the slot for his eighth goal of the season.
Anders Lee responded with a power-play goal 2 1/2 minutes later to put the visitors ahead 2-1. Allen stopped Noah Dobson's blast from the blue line, but the rebound rolled right to Lee, who quickly lifted a wrist shot that bounced off the near post into the far side.
Curtis Lazar pulled the Devils even at 5:31 of the second period. Paul Cotter collected a pass behind the net and dished it to Lazar in front for a quick strike that caught Sorokin by surprise.
Palmieri made it 3-2 for New York at 11:28, tipping Alexander Romanov's one-timer past Allen from the low slot.
Dawson Mercer had a chance to tie it for New Jersey on a breakaway with under five minutes remaining in the period, but Sorokin stayed with it to preserve the lead.
