Two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray will undergo a back procedure on Saturday with the start of Wimbledon just nine days away.

Murray is expected to retire later this year and has stated that he badly wants to play at Wimbledon.

"Andy is having a procedure on his back tomorrow (Saturday). We will know more after this has taken place and will update further as soon as possible," Murray's team said in a statement.

The 37-year-old Brit was forced to retire from Wednesday's second-round match against Jordan Thompson of Australia in the Queen's Club tourney. Murray said he felt shooting pains down the right side of his back and right leg as well as a loss of coordination.

"I have dealt with back issues for a long time, for the last 10 years or so, and it's probably quite common for a lot of players," Murray said after Wednesday's match. "But I have never had that loss of coordination, loss of control, strength in the leg before."

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam winner, has faced many injury issues during his stellar career. Murray underwent hip surgeries in both 2018 and 2019 with the latter one involving a transplant that allowed Murray to continue his career.

Murray, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, also has been aiming to play in the 2024 Games in Paris.
