The Milwaukee Brewers placed All-Star outfielder/designated hitter Christian Yelich on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to low back inflammation.

Yelich, 32, was removed from Tuesday's 1-0 road win against the Chicago Cubs when the nagging back injury flared up.

He told reporters he will visit a spine specialist on Thursday to discuss the next steps, including the possibility of season-ending surgery.

"Everybody plays through stuff but sometimes you just can't," he said, per MLB.com. "That's kind of where we're at, at this point. Your body won't cooperate with you. For me, aside from when I broke my knee, this has been the one thing that I've had to deal with. It's frustrating. I've dealt with it a lot during my career. I feel like it's kind of affected me in a negative way at times.

"I've been able to play at a high level but it's one of those things that's held me back a little, so that's where it's frustrating. What are you going to do? But also, though, there's a potential that I can finally get on the other side of this, finally, when all is said and done. We'll see. It remains to be seen, I guess."

Yelich made his third All-Star team this season (first since 2019) and entered Wednesday leading the National League in batting average (.315) and on-base percentage (.406) through 73 games. He has 11 homers, 42 RBIs and 21 steals.

The Brewers recalled catcher Gary Sanchez from the injured list in a corresponding transaction.

Sanchez, 31, has not played since June 23 due to a strained left calf. He is batting .218 with seven homers and 21 RBIs in 51 games and is a candidate to fill Yelich's role at DH.
