The Washington Capitals re-signed forward Connor McMichael to a two-year, $4.2 million extension, the team announced Monday.

McMichael, 23, posted career highs across the board with 33 points (18 goals, 15 assists) in 80 games in 2023-24.

He has 51 points (27 goals, 24 assists) in 155 games since the Capitals drafted him in the first round (25th overall) in 2019.

The Capitals also on Monday signed free agent defenseman Matt Roy to a six-year contract worth $34.5 million with an annual average value of $5.75 million.

Roy, 29, collected five goals and 20 assists and a plus-21 rating in 81 regular-season games with the Los Angeles Kings last season. He added two assists in five playoff games.

"Matt is a steady right-handed defenseman who plays important minutes against the opposition's top players and is extremely responsible in his own end," Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan said. "We feel his addition will help strengthen our blueline for the next several years."

The Kings selected Roy in the seventh round of the 2015 NHL Draft. He played for Los Angeles from 2018-24, scoring 24 goals with 82 assists and a plus-67 rating in 369 regular-season games. He has a total of six points (one goal, five assists) in 18 career playoff games.

Also Monday, Washington re-signed goaltender Mitchell Gibson to a one-year, two-way contract ($775,000/$100,000), defenseman Chase Priskie to a one-year, two-way contract (775,000/$400,000) and forward Ethen Frank to a two-year, $1.55 million contract.
