Terrell Edmunds' return to Pittsburgh was short-lived, with the Steelers announcing Saturday the safety was released, just two months into his second stint with the team that launched his career, as the Steelers shuffle their roster heading into Sunday's matchup against the Washington Commanders.

Edmunds, 27, was a first-round draft pick of the Steelers in 2018 and played his first five seasons in Pittsburgh. He split time with the Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles in 2023, and appeared in one game this season with the Jacksonville Jaguars before the Steelers signed him from the Jags' practice squad on Sept. 10.

In 101 career games (79 starts), Edmunds has 465 tackles, 7.5 sacks, six interceptions and 28 passes defended. He had seven tackles in five games with the Steelers this season.

The Steelers released Edmunds and running back Jonathan Ward on Saturday to make room for linebacker Tyler Matakevich (hamstring) and wide receiver Ben Skowronek (shoulder) to return from injuries when the AFC North-leading Steelers (6-2) visit the NFC East-leading Commanders (7-2).
