Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh recently expressed his disapproval of a comparison between legendary captain MS Dhoni and Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan made by a Pakistan journalist. The journalist posted a photograph of Dhoni and Rizwan on social media, asking followers to determine who’s the better player between them.

Dhoni is widely regarded as one of the most brilliant minds in world cricket, leading India to unparalleled success, including victories in all three major ICC tournaments. His tenure as captain remains one of the most successful in the history of the sport, and his strategic acumen and leadership qualities are unmatched. On the other hand, Rizwan has been Pakistan’s first-choice keeper-batter across formats for the last 4-5 years and has a commendable T20I record.

Harbhajan Singh’s defense of MS Dhoni’s legacy

The post comparing Dhoni and Rizwan caught the attention of Harbhajan, who promptly schooled the journalist for making such a comparison. The veteran spinner praised Rizwan for his batting abilities and contributions to the Pakistan team but was clear in his stance that Dhoni’s achievements and status in world cricket are unparalleled.

“What r u smoking nowadays ???? What a silly question to ask . Bhaiyo isko batao . DHONI bhut aage hai RIZWAN se Even if u will ask Rizwan he will give u an honest answer for this . I like Rizwan he is good player who always play with intent.. but this comparison is wrong. DHONI no 1 even today in world cricket . None better thn him behind stumps,” Harbhajan wrote on X.

Harbhajan’s recent performance in the World Championship of Legends

While addressing the comparison between Dhoni and Rizwan, Harbhajan himself has been actively involved in cricket, showcasing his enduring skills in the recently concluded World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 tournament hosted in England. Playing for the Indian Champions team, captained by his former teammate Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan delivered impressive performances throughout the tournament. He finished with 8 wickets in 7 matches, boasting an average of 15 and an economy rate of 6.66. His performance was instrumental in the team’s success and he demonstrated that his bowling prowess remains intact. The final saw India chasing a challenging target set by Pakistan Champions, and the team managed to secure a victory by 5 wickets.
