On Day 2 of the First Test between India and Bangladesh, Virat Kohli was seen bringing his signature energy to the field, engaging in an impromptu dance after the fall of a Bangladesh wicket in their first innings.

Virat Kohli’s joyful dance

Kohli’s spontaneous celebrations have become a hallmark of his on-field persona, often playfully teasing his teammates and finding moments of joy during intense cricketing action. His antics once again brought smiles to fans and players alike, offering a lighter moment in an otherwise competitive match.

Kohli’s Test struggles continues

However, while Kohli’s vibrant energy remains undeniable, his form in Test cricket has been less than impressive of late. In this match, his performance with the bat faltered as he was dismissed for just 6 runs in India’s first innings, continuing a concerning trend in his recent Test appearances. Even in the second innings, Kohli’s bad form continued as he was dismissed for just 17 by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Kohli, who last scored a Test century against the West Indies in July 2023, has struggled to regain the consistency that once made him one of the most formidable players in the format. As a versatile, all-format player, Kohli has enjoyed success across the cricketing spectrum, but his recent form in Test matches has raised eyebrows. Despite his excellence in limited-overs cricket, his Test numbers have dipped, with his current average dropping to 49.15—a stark contrast to the standards he set earlier in his career.

Making his return to Test cricket after a gap of nearly nine months, Kohli’s last appearance was against South Africa in January 2024. He had missed India’s crucial five-match Test series against England, held between January and March 2024, due to personal reasons and a break from international cricket. Now, returning to the longest format of the game, the pressure is on Kohli to regain his footing and deliver the big scores that have been missing from his Test record in recent months.

In his illustrious career, Kohli has played 113 Test matches, amassing 8,848 runs, including 29 centuries. Once celebrated for his consistency and dominant Test average, the recent dip in form has prompted conversations about whether he can rediscover the magic that defined his peak years.
