Former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik has passionately appealed to the Indian cricket team to participate in the Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan. In a recent interview on the Pakistani YouTube channel Salim Khaleeq, Malik emphasized the importance of separating sports from politics, urging both nations to resolve bilateral issues independently.

Shoaib Malik: A bridge between two nations

Known for his exceptional cricketing career and his ability to connect with fans across the border, Malik has always been a symbol of Indo-Pak cricketing camaraderie. His latest appeal is seen as a significant gesture aimed at fostering better relations between the two cricket-crazy nations.

“Whatever reservations there are between the countries, that’s a separate issue and should be solved separately. Politics shouldn’t come into sports. The Pakistan team went to India last year, and now it’s a good opportunity for the Indian team too. I think there are many players in the Indian team who haven’t played in Pakistan, so it would be great for them. Hum bahut acche log hai (we are good people). We’re very hospitable people, so I’m sure the Indian team should come,” Malik said, underlining Pakistan’s hospitality and its eagerness to welcome the Indian team.

He reminisced about the Pakistan team’s visit to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup and expressed hope for a reciprocal gesture.

Malik opines on politics to stay out of sports

Malik’s plea comes as the political climate between India and Pakistan remains tense. However, the former cricketer believes that sports should transcend political differences, offering a platform for peace and understanding. He stressed that cricket has the power to unite people and build bridges, urging both countries to prioritize the spirit of the game.

Malik rules out his return to Pakistan cricket

While appealing to India to play in Pakistan, Malik clarified his stance on returning to international cricket. The veteran all-rounder, who retired from all game formats in 2022, expressed satisfaction with his cricketing journey.

“No, I am happy and satisfied after playing for so many years. I have no interest in playing for Pakistan again,” Malik asserted. He emphasized that he is enjoying his retirement and is content with his contributions to Pakistani cricket.

A call for unity through cricket

Malik’s appeal has sparked a debate on the possibility of India participating in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. While fans on both sides of the border have welcomed the gesture, political considerations remain a major hurdle.

As the cricketing world eagerly awaits the ICC’s decision on the venue for the Champions Trophy 2025, Malik’s call for unity through cricket has resonated with millions. His statement serves as a reminder of the immense power of sports to bring people together and foster goodwill.
